Excerpt from Dharma Talk

Tapas is for me, in the face of something difficult, making the choice to come back again and again, to persevere. Choosing not to run or give up, but to stay with the effort of moving or “burning” through the discomfort in order to come out in some way transformed. In order to work through our challenges effectively we must be aware and truthful, we must see ourselves clearly and sometimes that is in itself, uncomfortable. Cultivating Tapas requires meeting ourselves head-on. Just seeing ourselves clearly and admitting our personal responsibility for some of the challenges we face can create such a discomfort- we want to run. But when we can stick with the truth of what we see in our hearts, we can change what we see.
